How much will it cost to use Case Study 2.0 plans?

The architects involved have agreed to release their plans for $25 per square foot, which is approximately 25% of their typical fee. Note: Engineering fees will be determined separately and are not included in the $25 per square foot cost.

What will be included in the plans?

Plans will be developed into a “Standard Plan” set, which will be designed for approval by the governing agency. Once a Standard Plan is approved through the full permitting process, subsequent users of the same pre-approved plan can expect a more rapid property-specific approval. The Standard Plan, once fully developed, is expected to include:

Architectural drawing set:

Site plan
Floor plans
Reflected ceiling plans
Finish plans
Power plans
Elevations
Sections
Interior Elevations
Details
Schedules (window, door, power, equipment, finish, lighting)

‍Architectural specifications:

Interior finishes
Built-in cabinetry (minimum required: kitchen and bathroom millworker interior elevations)
Plumbing fixtures
Door hardware (interior and exterior)
Lighting specifications

Can I make modifications to the plans?

Any modifications will require a separate agreement with the architect and may involve additional fees and time for approval.

Will I save time by using a Case Study 2.0 plan?

Yes, the initiative aims to reduce rebuild time in multiple ways. First, preparation of an initial design with an architect often takes three to five months, and this step has already been completed. Second, once a Standard Plan for a specific design has been approved, we anticipate that the overall permitting timeline will be reduced by roughly two months. Third, contractors building the same project multiple times will be able to build more quickly through replication of design details.

How does the Case Study 2.0 initiative aim to reduce costs compared to a typical custom home by the same architect?

The initiative aims to reduce costs by reducing consultant fees, increasing efficiency of construction through repetition, and utilizing preferred pricing from supplier partners.

What is Case Study 2.0’s role in the construction of these homes?

Case Study 2.0 is an initiative that brings together architects to design elevated, fire-resilient Standard Plan homes, which are showcased through the Case Study 2.0 catalogue. It does not provide construction services, pricing evaluation or guarantees, plan evaluation, or act as a party to contracts. Homeowners will contract directly with architects, engineers, and contractors.

Do the plans include interior design selections?

Plans will include Interior Finishes, Primary Built-in Cabinetry, Plumbing Fixtures, Door Hardware and most Primary Lighting. Plans will not include interior design packages of non-fixed furnishings or direct lighting. Some architects may be able to provide an interior design package for an added fee. Inquire directly with the architect.

Do I need to hire a contractor?

Yes. Each architect involved in the program has identified a preferred contractor to build their model home in order to maximize opportunities for economies of scale. The architects can connect you with their preferred contractor.

Can my architect join the Case Study 2.0 Program?

Architects not currently participating can inquire about joining Case Study 2.0. Please reach out to Alison@CrestRealEstate.com.

Can a developer use a Case Study 2.0 plan?

Yes, developers may use a Case Study 2.0 plan under the same terms. However, all architects reserve the right to accept or decline each project.

Can insurance proceeds be used to pay for Case Study 2.0 plans?

In many cases, yes. You should check with your insurance company to confirm that architectural and design fees are included in your rebuild benefits.

How long will the permitting process take using a Case Study 2.0 design?

Once the first Standard Plan approval is secured for a design, subsequent permitting should be significantly faster compared to a traditional custom plan submission.

Will Case Study 2.0 plans meet current fire safety codes (e.g., Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) compliance)?

Yes. All plans are designed to meet or exceed current WUIx standards and local building codes for fire resistance.

Can I add features like solar panels, battery storage, or fire suppression systems?

Yes. Coordinate with your contractor and architect.
